Sardegna and the chess !!
1° Festival Internazionale di Scacchi Torre Delle Stelle
Cagliari, Sardegna
Finally it's official! From June 22 to 26 will be held the "1st International Festival of Torre delle Stelle," thanks to the organizational efforts of the club ASD Cagliari Chess and the patronage of the Province of Cagliari and Communities of Sinnai and Maracalagonis, which allowed the creation of an event of high technical content.
Confirmed the presence of many prestigious names in Italian and international level, among which we mention the award-Italian champion GM Sergio Mariotti, Italian number one for several years, which has a truly extraordinary career, whereas it has never been a chess player professional, the young and combative GM Sabino Brunello, number three in Italy, preceded only by the phenomena and Vocaturo Caruana, and the always solid MI Fabio Bruno, of considerable experience with two standards behind GM, and for several years, CT the Italian national; MI Shytaj Luca, always in pursuit dell'agognato title of GM, which technically has already amply demonstrated they deserve; MI Pierluigi Piscopo, player "thousand ideas" for years to national leaders, and one of the best trainers in European level, the emerging sixteen, nearing MF (but even with a provision of MI), Guido Caprio; Slovak GM Jan Markos, on his first experience in Italy as a player, the young Romanian Camelia Ciobanu WIM, resident in Sardinia several years, the WFM Maria Grazia De Rosa, former Italian champion under 12, 16, 18 and 20 and absolute current Italian Champion, constantly growing. Sardinian stand out among the players names instead of the MC Locci Damiano, a former Italian champion Under-16 and accustomed to high-level tournaments, which addresses each time carefully prepared, and CM Cristian Reeks, the last of the Romantics, winner of six titles regional but also known outside the island for a superb "immortal" played a few years ago against GM Miladinovic.
All this would be enough to make you feel more than satisfied with any organizer of a tournament, but the name is truly outstanding event of exceptional importance for those who know the history of the International Chess: Dutch Jan Timman!
Intern_Torre_bTimman was firmly in the elite of the chess world for several decades, and one of the strongest players do not dispute the throne of Russian world champion Kasparov and Karpov the usual suspects at the turn of the '80s, and was runner up in the Fide ( Karpov only blocked his road title in the final) in 1993 and, among his biggest hits, boasts three victories in the super-tournaments Wjik am Zee (1981, 1985) and Linares (1988) and the gold medal for the best result in first board at the Olympics in Haifa in 1976. Reached in 1982, the 2nd place in the world ranking, behind only the then unrivaled Anatoly Karpov. The funny Jan, Netherlands third in history to reach the title of GM after the legendary Max Euwe and after Jan Donner, has a brilliant style of play that has attracted the sympathies of many generations, inspired by the so-called "romantic" in rowing end of 1800. In addition, he is also active in journalism, as editor of the magazine "New in Chess" and writer of several successful chess books, including The Art of Chess Analysis.
Other important initiatives that will provide additional technical depth to the event, will be those who will be engaged Robert Fontaine and his wife Kateryna Lahn.
Both GM, in fact, will not play the tournament but held together on the weekend of 18/19 June, a very interesting technical training is open to all players who want to improve, also June 24 at 10 am, the two are involved in a 30 simultaneous chess.
For those who do not know them, remember that the Ukrainian Lahn became, at age 12, the youngest WGM ever and is currently among the world's top 10 rankings of women's Elo. It is also world champion in the women's game in charge flash.
The French GM Robert Fontaine, however, is a real chess player and journalist-TV reporter (his remarkable and ChessBase video sites europe-Echecs) ensure that, in addition to the live comments of the most interesting matches, interviews, news and analysis high level for the duration of the tournament.
A lot of irons in the fire, then, for a rally in Sardinia he felt strongly the need, especially after the unannounced interruption of the super-tournament in Porto Mannu, unfortunately no longer confirmed three beautiful editions.
